Pikangikum Sudden Death Investigation – Two-Month-Old Dead

PIKANGIKUM – On January 31, 2018, Pikangikum Police Service requested the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to assist with a sudden death investigation in the community of Pikangikum First Nation.

Earlier on January 31, 2018, Pikangikum Police Service officers had been contacted regarding an infant male who had been brought into the nursing station and was subsequently pronounced dead. The male has been identified as two-month-old Neil Neegan Andi KEEPER of Pikangikum First Nation.

Officers with the Pikangikum Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Randy HEIDA of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

A post-mortem examination was conducted at the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS) in Toronto on February 2, 2018.
