Thunder Bay – SPORTS – The Lakehead men’s and women’s basketball teams are ready for another doubleheader in the Thunderdome this weekend as they take on the Waterloo Warriors on Friday and Saturday night.

Women’s Basketball (10-4)

Coach Jon Kreiner on the upcoming weekend: “The grind of the OUA divisional schedule continues as we return home to face a young and good defensive team in Waterloo. Waterloo had a strong game against OUA West #1 Windsor last time they played holding them to 58 points. Waterloo struggles to score but they boast the 5th best field goal defense in the OUA. They do have a sophomore in Sydney Wilson that is doing very well averaging 9.1 PPG on 36% shooting and 52% 3PT shooting. She is very quick and gets to the free throw line well so we will have to be ready for her as well as the fact that they have several shooters that can get hot. Our defense and ball movement have been steadily improving and we hope to see that continue this weekend.”
Waterloo has a record of 1-13 with their first win coming from Algoma.
The Thunderwolves are on a four-game winning streak after two more big wins at Western over the weekend and they remain tied for second place in the OUA West along with McMaster.

Men’s Basketball (1-13)

“Waterloo is a talented team with two excellent players in Petrov and Hodzic. It will be key for us to contain them in transition and on the glass. If we scramble and play with multiple efforts on the defensive end, we will be in good shape. Offensively we need to continue to trust our spacing and share the ball. We’re looking forward to playing Waterloo and it should be an exciting weekend,” says Coach Ryan Thomson.
Waterloo comes to Thunder Bay 6-8 after ending their four-game winning streak with a two-point loss to Windsor (6-8) last week. Nedim Hodzic is second on the leaderboard in the OUA averaging 20.9 points per game and first in rebounds with 11.4.
With a new found energy after their win a few weeks ago, the Thunderwolves are hungry for another win after two tough games against Western this past weekend.
