OPP Respond to Collision on Highway 11/17

THUNDER BAY – On Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at approximately 12:43 am, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Thunder Bay Police Service, Oliver Paipoonge Fire and Emergency Services and Superior North EMS responded to a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 11/17, west of Kakabeka Falls.

The driver of a tractor-trailer unit was eastbound when the driver entered the eastbound ditch. The tractor and trailer came to rest on the passenger side of the vehicle, partially in the ditch as well as in the eastbound lane causing the lane to be blocked. Traffic was alternated through the westbound lane.

The driver was taken to hospital by ambulance and sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The driver, 59-year-old male, from Newcastle, Ontario was charged with Unsafe Move – Lane or Shoulder contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
