THUNDER BAY – ENTERTAINMENT – The Theatre in Education department at Magnus Theatre is excited to announce their winter programs, beginning in January 2018!

A full roster of dynamic THEATRE CLASSES will be offered for ages 6 and up.  As always, Magnus’ classes are taught by professional actors, directors, and educators. One class for adults will be offered this winter – INTRO TO ADULT THEATRE (led by Theatre in Education Director Danielle Chandler). This season will also include DRAMA CLUB, a class for teenagers that will conclude with a performance on the Mainstage, and a PA DAY PROGRAM that will be instructed by Amanda Vinet and Danielle Chandler. MAGNUS MINIS and MAGNUS YOUTH classes will continue, taught by both Amanda Vinet and Danielle Chandler to round off the winter session of classes.

Looking for something to do over the winter holidays? Magnus is revamping the YOUNG PLAYWRIGHT’S CHALLENGE after a hiatus of more than a decade. Playwrights between ages of 13 and 19 are invited to submit until February 28th, 2018. The scripts will undergo an adjudication process, and a winner and two runners-up will be chosen to have their scripts workshopped on the main stage. Cash prizes of $500, $300 and $200 will be awarded.

The NEWCOMER PROJECT has been in the works since October 2017 in partnership with Thunder Bay Multicultural Association. Theatre in Education Director Danielle Chandler and Theatre in Education Intern Amanda Vinet have been out in the community retrieving stories about Newcomer youth’s journeys to Canada. Local high school students have been working diligently under the guidance of professional Magnus educators to create a script that blends Documentary Theatre and creation, inspired by the stories gathered from Newcomer youth in Thunder Bay.
