MARATHON – WEATHER – Weather is impacting the Marathon region. At 5:00 PM Marathon OPP officers are currently alternating east and west traffic on Hwy 17 west of Marathon as several tractor trailers are stuck on the highway due to heavy snow in the area.  Motorists are to expect delays when traveling through this area as plows try to keep up with the conditions.

Snow squall warning in effect for:

  • Marathon – Schreiber
  • Wawa – Pukaskwa Park
  • White River – Dubreuilville

Snow squalls are expected. Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, and snow will quickly accumulate.

Snow squall conditions expected to persist this evening.

Current information suggests up to 25 cm of snow are possible from Marathon to west of White River this evening. There has already been a report of 20 cm at Marathon airport. This snow squall should begin to weaken late this evening.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.
