Drug Charges Follow Traffic Stop in Baldwin Township

OPP have laid a number of charges in a stolen vehicle investigation

ESPANOLA, ON – On Sunday, December 17, 2017, at approximately 3:35 a.m., an officer from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop after observing a traffic violation at the intersections of Highway 17 and Highway 6 in Baldwin Township, Ontario.

The investigation revealed that the driver and passenger were in possession of controlled drugs. Police seized a quantity of suspected marijuana and cocaine.

As a result of the investigation, Devonte BURTON, age 19, of North York, Ontario has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marijuana – Under 30 grams contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), and
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance-Cocaine contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

Jamar CAMPBELL, age 19, of Brampton Ontario has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marijuana – Under 30 grams contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

Both accused are scheduled to appear at the Provincial Court of Justice in Espanola, Ontario, on February 12, 2018.
