THUNDER BAY – An incident in an apartment building in the 200 block of Rowand Street ended with the arrest of a Thunder Bay man last night.TBPS Uniform Patrol officers were called to the building at approximately 9:30 p.m. last night with regards to a resident who had allegedly committed an assault and discharged a fire extinguisher in common area hallways. When officers arrived, the accused would not come out of his apartment for police. He was believed to be at risk
TBPS Uniform Patrol officers were called to the building at approximately 9:30 p.m. last night with regards to a resident who had allegedly committed an assault and discharged a fire extinguisher in common area hallways. When officers arrived, the accused would not come out of his apartment for police. He was believed to be at risk to himself and others.
Members of the TBPS Emergency Task Unit were dispatched to the scene and incident command was established. In the interest of public safety, residents of the building were evacuated. ETU officers gained entry to the apartment and the male was taken into custody at approximately 10:50 p.m.
The 40-year-old accused was taken to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for a mental health assessment. He will also be facing criminal charges of Assault and Mischief under $5,000.
The accused, who has not appeared before the court, and has not been named. will also be facing criminal charges of Assault and Mischief under $5,000.
None of the charges have been proven in court.
