Update on Cat Lake Double Homicide

Canada's First Homicide of 2014 happened in Saskatoon Saskatchewan

Nishnawbe Aski PoliceCAT LAKE First Nation – There are more details from the Ontario Provincial Police on the double homicide which happened in Cat Lake First Nation.

The OPP report that on December 6, 2017, Austin Shayne WESLEY and an 18-year-old male from Cat Lake First Nations was arrested by the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service.

On December 7, 2017, WESLEY was charged with two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of uttering threats and one count of assault. WESLEY appeared in Provincial Court of Justice in Kenora on December 8, 2017, and was remanded in custody. His next appearance in court will be on January 11, 2018, at 10:00 am in Kenora.

The two victims have been identified as Isaac GRAY, a 51-year-old male, and Tyrese SHAKAKEESIC, 18-year-old male, both from the Cat Lake First Nation community.

The post-mortem examinations are being carried out at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora on the December 8 and 9, 2017.

The homicide investigation continues under the direction of Detective Inspector Darryl Sigouin of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) with officers from NAPS and OPP North West Region Crime Units.

Cat Lake First Nation is located 180 kilometres north of Sioux Lookout.
