THUNDER BAY – The City’s Roads Section is working hard to manage winter control conditions; however, residents are asked to take precautions when driving today.

Road crews started plowing arterial and collector streets at 5 am this morning and will continue to address these roadways throughout the day. Due to the quantity of snow falling and blowing snow, the arterial and collector streets need to be re-plowed. This will delay response to residential plowing.

At 3:00 AM this morning, it was raining hard. The snow started at about 5:00 AM coming down wet and heavy.

“Depending on the duration and intensity of today’s winter event we may complete the re-plowing of arterial, collector streets later this afternoon at which time we will move into residential streets,” said Brad Adams, Manager – Roads Section. “Residential street plowing will begin once all arterial and collector roadways are cleared.”

Sidewalk snow removal also started at 5 am this morning on the arterial collector streets sidewalks and the core area. Progress is very slow due to the quantity and drifting of snow.

Residents are also reminded to please take extra care following parking signs and Winter Parking Restrictions are in in effect.
