THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – Lakehead will finish up the fall portion of its OUA schedule with a pair of games against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in Oshawa this weekend with game times set for 7:30 PM on Friday and 7:00 PM on Saturday.

The Matchup

Lakehead: 6-6-1 OUA (5th place West Division), 8-8-1 overall

Ontario Tech: 6-5-1 OUA (7th place East Division), 8-8-1 overall

Recent Results

The Wolves are coming off a home sweep of the University of Toronto, edging the Varsity Blues 3-2 in overtime on Friday night followed by a 3-1 win on Saturday.

UOIT picked up two victories on a road swing through Northeastern Ontario last weekend, winning 4-3 in overtime at Nipissing last Friday and 5-3 at Laurentian the following evening.

Series History

The Thunderwolves hold the lead in the all-time series versus UOIT with a record of 15-6 against the Ridgebacks.

Most recently, the two squads faced off at the Fort William Gardens at the beginning of the season and split the weekend series. The Thunderwolves blanked the Ridgebacks 3-0 in the Friday opener, but UOIT responded with a 3-1 win in the Saturday rematch.

One-Two Punch

Wolves’ netminder Devin Green has the lowest goals-against average in the West Division and the second-lowest in the OUA with an impressive 1.76. Both Green and goaltending partner Nic Renyard are ranked in the top ten in the conference by save percentage at .940 and .925 respectively.

About the Ridgebacks

UOIT is led by Head Coach Curtis Hodgins, now in this third season behind the Ridgebacks’ bench.

Forwards Brennan Roy, Mike Robinson and Ben Blasko are Ontario Tech’s top scoring threats, while defencemen Tyler Mayea and Jesse Baird anchor the blue line and also contribute offensively.

Tyson Teichmann and Brendan O’Neill share the Ridgebacks’ goaltending duties.
