THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Lakehead men’s and women’s basketball teams are heading to Sault Ste. Marie this weekend to once again take on the Algoma Thunderbirds. This time during the regular season, the Wolves will play at 6 pm and 8 pm at the George Leach Centre on Friday and 2 pm and 4 pm on Saturday.

Women’s Basketball (3-1)
The Thunderwolves swept the Algoma Thunderbirds earlier in October during non-conference play with Lakehead winning 88-56 the first night followed by an 87-65 victory on Saturday.
Coach Jon Kreiner states heading in, “Our first two against Algoma went well but our team knows just how hard it is to win 4 in a row against anyone and will be ready for the challenge. Algoma can get hot from 3, has some size to deal with our forwards and are a well-coached team. We will need to pay particular attention to Karina Cole and Jamerka Martin who both can get rolling on offense.”
Thunderwolf Leashja Grant currently leads the league in points and rebounds averaging 20 points, 12 rebounds per game.
Algoma is in last place in the West with a 0-6 record.
Men’s Basketball (0-4)
“This will be the 3rd and 4th times facing Algoma this year after losing to them twice in preseason at home. We should know what type of games to expect and need to start preparing ourselves physically and mentally in practice this week.” – Coach Manny Furtado
Algoma (1-5) previously beat the Thunderwolves 76-50 and 86-85 with Thunderbird Jermaine Lyle scoring 27 points the second night, going 5-7 from the three.
Algoma earned their first win of the regular season this past Saturday against York (73-71).
