Kenora OPP Charge Two with Impaired Driving

Thunder Bay Police laid impaired driving charges

KENORA – The Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have charged two people with Impaired Driving offences over the weekend.

On November 12, 2017, at approximately 6:45 pm, police were notified of a motor vehicle collision (MVC) on Lakeview Drive in the City of Kenora, east of the Norman Bridge. Police attended and were advised three vehicles had been involved in the MVC. Police determined one of the drivers had been consuming alcohol. She was arrested and transported for tests. There were no reported injuries but all three vehicles sustained damage.

As a result of this investigation, 59-year-old Patti WHORPOLE of Kenora has been charged with Driving While Ability Impaired (Alcohol) contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code, (CC), and Driving with More than 80 mg of Alcohol in Blood s. 253(1)(b) CC.

She is to appear in Kenora Court on December 14 to answer to the charges.

On November 13, 2017, shortly after 11:00 pm, police conducted a vehicle stop on Fifth Street South in the City of Kenora. Police determined the male driver had been consuming alcohol and he was arrested at the scene and transported for tests.

As a result of this investigation, 61-year-old Dennis COPENACE of Fort Frances, ON has been charged with Driving While Ability Impaired-motor vehicle s. 253(1)(a) CC and Fail or Refuse to Provide Sample s. 254(2) CC.

He is to appear in Kenora court on December 28, 2017, to answer to the charges.

None of the charges has been proven in a court of law.
