Bantam Kings ready for Big Nickel in Sudbury

    Big NickelTHUNDER BAY – Fresh off being crowned champions at the North American Hockey League’s Future Prospects event in Minnesota two weeks ago, the Thunder Bay AAA bantam Kings will once again try to mine gold this weekend as they travel to Sudbury to compete in the 38th annual Big Nickel Tournament.

    Thunder Bay opens up competition Friday with two tilts on their slate.

    They’ll open up against the Soo Greyhounds at 9:30 a.m. before taking on the North Bay Trappers at 5:15 p.m.

    Saturday sees the Kings wrapping up round-robin action with two more contests on the docket.

    Providing the opposition there will be the Nickel City Sons of Sudbury at 11:15 a.m. before they finish up with the Timmins North Stars in a 5 p.m. start.

    A total of eight teams will be vying for the title in the AAA bantam division with the top four sides after round-robin action advancing to semifinal play Sunday morning.

    From there the two semifinal winners will move on to the championship contest later that day at 1:45 p.m.
