THUNDER BAY – NEWS – The City of Thunder Bay is finalizing the development of a new Transportation Master Plan and is looking to residents for feedback.
The Plan, being developed in cooperation with the consulting firm IBI Group Inc., will help guide the City’s investment in transportation infrastructure to meet the needs of pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders, and motorists for the next 20 plus years.
Development of the new Plan requires comprehensive input from the public. Residents are encouraged to help shape the City’s future transportation needs by attending the final drop-in Public Open House on Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 4 – 7 pm, with the presentation taking place at 5:30 pm, at the Italian Cultural Centre.
“The Transportation Master Plan will be an important strategic planning document that will guide the policies and infrastructure investment for the City’s transportation system,” said Kayla Dixon – Director, Engineering & Operations Division. “There are significant changes being recommended to the network and new policies being proposed. We are looking forward to hearing feedback from the community on these proposed changes.”
During the Public Open House, the public will be asked to provide feedback on some the draft recommendations in the Plan including the vision, proposed strategies and policies for active transportation including four to three-lane road diets, pedestrian priority corridors and a revised cycling network, road network improvements, transit improvements, Complete Streets and Traffic Calming Policies.
The final Transportation Master Plan draft report is scheduled to be completed in December 2017.
