THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Thunderwolves women’s basketball and volleyball teams are busy this weekend as they are both on the road for Thanksgiving weekend. The women’s basketball team will be competing at the University of Winnipeg, while the women’s volleyball team will be playing games at Brock University.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The Thunderwolves women’s basketball team is competing at the BOB FM Women’s Basketball Shootout this Friday afternoon at the Duckworth Centre on the University of Winnipeg campus.
The Thunderwolves open the tournament playing the host team, Winnipeg, after the Thunderwolves split with the Wesmen this past weekend. Lakehead beat Winnipeg in the opening game on Thursday (65-56) but fell short on Fridays game 87-74.
“We travel to the U of W ‘Bob FM’ tournament this weekend to compete against Winnipeg, Manitoba, and UNBC. All three teams will be tough opponents and these competitions will help us to achieve our goal of improving. It will be our third game in a row vs Winnipeg. They are a very tough matchup for us but we hope to see improvement in our compete level. Manitoba has good size and ability to score. We will have to play smart defense. UNBC has competed well thus far in pre-season. They have a good mixture of size, athleticism, speed & scoring. A great slate of games overall will help us get ready for league play.” – Coach Jon Kreiner

After a strong competitive weekend in Ottawa, the Thunderwolves will have another opportunity to play against some tough competition in preparation for the regular season.
“We have a few new faces in the line-up for this weekend and we expect them to enhance ourteam’ss performance. Last weekend freshman Meghan Routier and veterans Leah Mousseau and Rheanna Geisel, led the Wolves on Offence while Libero Ciara Zarn led the defence with help in the front row from the middle blockers Jess Korchak and Christie Lowe. We have had a fast turnaround this week and our athletes understand that. They all look forward to Brock’s event and the opportunity it provides us to gain more growth with our team.” – Coach Chris Green
Lakehead plays Thursday night at 6 pm vs. Queens followed by an 8 pm game vs. Cegep. Friday and Saturday games will be determined based on Thursday nights game results.
