Thunder Storm Warning

THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – The weather service has issued a Severe Thunder Storm Warning for the City of Thunder Bay.

Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:

  • City of Thunder Bay

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Scattered strong thunderstorms are forming over northern Minnesota and are forecast to move into Northwestern Ontario late this afternoon. They will linger throughout the evening and potentially into the overnight hours as well.

A few may become severe with hail of 2 or 3 centimetres, as well as persistent heavy downpours giving 50 to possibly 75 mm of rainfall. Isolated winds gusts to 90 km/h are also possible.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
