THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police have started the Labour Day weekend off with a big arrest.
Thunder Bay Police arrested a Toronto area male who was wanted on a Canadian Wide Warrant for multiple drug, firearm and aggravated assault of a police officer related charges in Toronto.
Officers located the male in a vehicle with two other males in a parking lot on the corner of Arthur Street and Vickers Street just before 12:30PM EDT.
The Emergency Task Unit attempted to arrest the male at this location. Two males fled the scene. A thirty-nine-year old Thunder Bay male was taken into custody and has been charged with drug possession related charges.
Kibrom Kevin Tesfay, a twenty-five-year-old male from Toronto was located and arrested on the Canada Wide Warrant in the area of Ridgeway and Vickers Street.
There was a little extra drama involved in the incident. Police suspected it was possible some evidence was thrown from the vehicle during the arrest. That led to a search.
A K-9 unit with the Ministry of Natural Resources was requested to search the scene as it was believed a firearm may have been dropped by one of the fleeing males. The search has been concluded and a firearm was not located. The vehicle associated to these male in this incident has been towed to the TBPS station.
This investigation is ongoing.
