KENORA – The Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged a male with impaired driving over the weekend.

The OPP report that on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at approximately 9:30 p.m, the Marine and Trails unit were on general patrol on Lake of the Woods. Police stopped a Sea-Doo and spoke to the male driver. Police determined the driver had been consuming alcohol and transported him to the detachment for further tests.

As a result of this investigation, James QUINN from Kenora has been charged with Driving with more than .80 mg of Alcohol in 100 ml of Blood, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

He is to appear in Kenora Court on August 28, 2017 to answer to the charge.

Across the region the OPP have stepped up their efforts to ensure that the public is safer from impaired drivers. One of the easiest ways to avoid problems is to never mix boating and drinking, or drinking and driving.

The OPP state, “Boats and alcohol do not mix. If you consume alcohol, ensure you have a designated driver for your vessel”.

The Marine and Trails Unit will actively be on the water for the remainder of the boating season.
