DRYDEN – WEATHER – The hot weather is impacting conditions across the region including many communities in the path of potential Thunderstorms.
Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:
- Dryden – Vermilion Bay
- Kenora – Grassy Narrows – Whitedog
- Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls – Morson
- Pickle Lake – Cat Lake
- Sioux Lookout – Lac Seul FN
- Pikangikum – Poplar Hill – MacDowell
The watch is for areas of Northwestern Ontario and is likely to impact air travel as well.
Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.
Thunderstorms are expected to affect portions of northwestern Ontario this afternoon and early this evening ahead of an approaching cold front. Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats with these thunderstorms.
Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
