THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to an alarm at Sister Leila Greco apartments today at approximately 12:50. On arrival staff reported a fire on the fifth floor in an apartment. The first arriving truck made their way to the fifth floor and found smoke in the hallway. A second alarm was requested. In the apartment where the fire was the crew found that a small fire had occurred on the stove.
With the fire previously extinguished by a staff member the crews on scene began to clear the smoke which had now migrated to the sixth floor as well. Residents on both the sixth and fifth floors were evacuated to the fourth floor. Once ventilation was complete and the areas were deemed safe occupants were allowed into their apartments.
Paramedics assessed a small number of individuals on scene and one person was transported to Thunder Bay Regional for further assessment.
There were five pumpers, one aerial ladder and a command unit on scene. Twenty two members of Thunder Bay Fire Rescue were on scene. Two SNEMS ambulances attended to treat and assess some of the occupants.
Damage to the affected unit was minimal.
