Thunder Bay, ON – Copperfin Credit Union announced a donation of $25,000 to Roots To Harvest as part of their commitment to give back to our community. “When we heard about Roots To Harvest’s new location on Lillie St we wanted to find a way to help” said Allison Kasper, SVP Business And Social Impact. “They’re a great organization that support youth in recognizing their full potential, significantly improving our overall social wellness.”
Roots To Harvest, in turn, used the donation to purchase a 12 passenger van to help with their day to day operations. “Our office, along with many of our workers and other locations, are on the other side of town from the new site” said Erin Beagle, Executive Director at Roots To Harvest. “Being able to safely transport people is a huge help. It increases the chances that some of our youth employees make it to work every morning and builds our capacity to do more positive work throughout the community.”
When asked about some of the opposition the new site received recently Kasper replied “Urban and community gardens embody the same cooperative values that we do as a credit union. Hopefully this gesture shows them we have their back.” Copperfin also picked up the tab for the decals on the new van.
Last year Copperfin gave back six times more to our community than Big Banks for every dollar of business, and they’re committed to giving back $100,000 more this year.
