THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – Weather conditions in the areas west of Thunder Bay are set for thunderstorms. Environment Canada has a watch in effect.
Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:
- Savant Lake – Sturgeon Lake
- Sioux Lookout – Eastern Lac Seul
- Atikokan – Shebandowan – Quetico Park
- Upsala – Raith
- Armstrong – Auden – Wabakimi Park
- Beardmore – Jellicoe – Macdiarmid
- Gull Bay – Black Sturgeon Lake
Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, damaging hail and torrential rain.
Thunderstorms have the potential to become severe this afternoon and the storms will generally be moving from west to east. Wind gusts to 100 kilometres per hour and hail up to 3 centimetres in diameter are possible.
Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
