TORONTO – On behalf of the Chiefs of Ontario I would like to congratulate Joel Abram on his election as Grand Chief and Gord Peters as Deputy Grand Chief of the Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians during AIAI’s Annual General Assembly this morning at Caldwell First Nation.

“I would like to extend my congratulations and welcome Grand Chief Abram and Deputy Grand Chief Peters to working with the Political Confederacy and the Chiefs of Ontario,” said Regional Chief Day. “Grand Chief Abram’s experience in community governance and desire to look for practical solutions will be of great benefit to our team and he will be a strong voice for the First Nations communities. I look forward to working with Grand Chief Abram on protecting First Nations culture and languages and supporting him on addressing opioid addiction, and engaging First Nations youth.”

“I also want to take this opportunity to thank former Grand Chief, now Deputy Grand Chief Peters for his service and hard work during his time as Grand Chief. We’re quite fortunate that we will still be able to access his knowledge and years of experience dealing with First Nations treaties and issues in his new role as Deputy Grand Chief,” said Regional Chief Day.  “I further wish to extend my warm wishes to former Deputy Grand Chief Denise Stonefish for her tireless efforts on child welfare, health, social, and women’s issues.”
