Chief J. P. Lesveque on Adminstrative Suspension

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – The Thunder Bay Police Services Board, at a meeting on Thursday May 25, 2017 reviewed the matter of Criminal Code charges laid against Chief of the Thunder Bay Police Service, J.P. Levesque.

The outcome of that review is that Chief Levesque has been placed on Administrative Suspension.  During the period of Administrative Suspension the Chief will not exercise any of the powers vested in him as Chief of Police, pursuant to Section 89(5) of the Act.

Conditions of suspension

(5) While suspended, the chief of police, deputy chief of police or other police officer shall not exercise any of the powers vested in him or her as a chief of police, deputy chief of police or police officer, or wear or use clothing or equipment that was issued to him or her in that capacity.  2007, c. 5, s. 10.

The Administrative Suspension will continue until the final disposition of the proceeding in which the Chief’s conduct is in issue, pursuant to Section 89(4) of the Police Services Act.

Duration of suspension

(4) Unless the chief of police or board revokes the suspension, it shall continue until the final disposition of the proceeding in which the chief of police’s, deputy chief of police’s or other police officer’s conduct is at issue.  2007, c. 5, s. 10.

As this matter is before the courts the Board will not be making a public comment.
