KENORA – CRIME – On Friday, May 12, 2017, shortly after 1:00 pm, Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) members stopped two vehicles in a parking lot in the east end of Kenora. As a result of the police operation, three people were arrested and searched.
The search of the vehicles located approximately 135 grams of cocaine, a large amount of Canadian currency and items related to the drug trafficking trade. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be approximately $13,500.00.
Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Organized Crime and Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), along with the assistance of the Treaty Three Police Service, Kenora OPP Street Crime Unit and members of the Kenora OPP Detachment have now charged three people with drug-related charges following an investigation into drug trafficking in the Northwest Region.
The following people have been charged:
Sheila BLAIS, a forty-four-year-old female from Winnipeg, MB faces charges of;
- Trafficking in Schedule I substance-Cocaine sec. 5(1) Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA)
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 sec. 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
BLAIS has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Kenneth GIONET, a forty-year-old male from Winnipeg, MB faces charges of;
- Trafficking in Schedule I substance-Cocaine sec. 5(1) Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA)
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 sec. 354(1)(a) CC
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order sec. 733.1(1) (CC).
GIONET has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Michael BORCHARDT, a twenty-seven-year-old male from Madsen, ON faces charges of;
- Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking-Cocaine sec. 5(2) CDSA.
BORCHARDT was released to appear in Kenora Court on June 8, 2017 to answer to the charge.
