THUNDER BAY – LIVING – This week, students from Thunder Bay high schools will have the opportunity to gain valuable certifications that will assist them in their career and educational pursuits. The Success Certified Program runs on May 4 & 5 at Confederation College.
Success Certified is a joint initiative of the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce, Confederation College, Lakehead Public Schools, the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board, and Conseil scolaire de district catholique des Aurores boreales with funding support from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skill Development, and local sponsor Thunder Bay Hydro.
The event allows students to pick from a variety of courses for which they will receive training that will increase their skills and employability. Courses include: First Aid & Level “C” CPR, Chain Saw Safety, Safe Food Handling, Salon Assistant, Service Excellence, SMART Serve, Hoisting and Rigging, Lockout/Tag Out Procedures, Propane Carburetion Cylinder Exchange, Confined Spaces Entry Awareness, Working at Heights, and SAVE (Snowmobile, ATV, Vessel Education).
The program was initially launched in 2008 and has received great acclaim from students, parents, and teachers. This year’s participation is the highest ever with 226 students participating in 12 different courses.
