Shuniah Fire Fighters Knock Down Open Fire

Shuniah – NEWS – At 2:15pm on Sunday, April 30, 2017, Shuniah Fire & Emergency Services received a report of a structure fire in the 100 block of Amethyst Harbour Road.

Ontario Provincial Police reported seeing heavy black smoke several kilometres away and notified Fire Dispatch.

Upon police arrival, they found a shed on fire and some piles of brush close to the tree line on the property.  Shuniah Fire and Emergency Services responded and quickly knocked down the fire and prevented its spread to the bush.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

Shuniah Fire & Emergency Services would like to remind the public the that a permit is required for all Open Air Burning and that daytime restrictions between 8am and 5pm are in effect from April 1 to October 31.  Conditions of the permit also include dimensions and location of the fire, weather considerations, and ensuring sufficient fire suppression resources are available to extinguish the fire.
