Drug Bust in Kenora Sees Three People Charged

KENORA – CRIME – Another drug raid in Northwestern Ontario has resulted in three arrests and the seizure of $3000 worth of drugs. There are also three people now facing charges.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Organized Crime and Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), in partnership with the Treaty Three Police, OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), the Northwest Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), Provincial Operations Intelligence Bureau (POIB), the Kenora OPP Detachment, Kenora Street Crime Unit, OPP Northwest Region Crisis Negotiation Team and OPP K9 Unit, report that on Thursday, April 6th, just after 4:00AM CDT, as a result of an ongoing investigation, police executed a search warrant on a residence in the North end of the City of Kenora.

Two men and a woman were arrested at the scene. A search of the residence located just under 10 grams of Methamphetamine, a small amount of Hydromorphone, Canadian currency, ammunition and other items associated to the drug trafficking trade.

The street value of the drugs is estimated to be just over $3000.

As a result of this investigation, police have charged the following people;

Garnet SUMNER, 28 years old of Kenora has been charged with;

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance-other drugs contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking-other drugs sec. 5(2) CDSA
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 sec. 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Possession of Firearm of Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order sec. 117.01(1) CC.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hear ing.

Christopher FRENCH 34 years old of Kenora has been charged with;

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance-other drugs contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking-other drugs sec. 5(2) CDSA
  • Possession of Firearm of Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order sec. 117.01(1) CC.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Deanne KELNER 27 years old, of Kenora has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance-other drugs contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking-other drugs sec. 5(2) CDSA

She has been released and is to appear in court on May 4, 2017 to answer to the charges.
