Sioux Lookout, ON – The Sioux Lookout Fire Services, along with its partners in safety, is planning a mock emergency exercise for April. The Sioux Lookout OPP, EMS, Municipal Emergency Services (including Fire Services), the Canadian National Railway (CN), and the Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry will be participating in this initiative.
Rob Favot, Municipal Manager of Emergency Services and Fire Chief, provided some additional explanation of the exercise.
“We are undertaking this mock emergency exercise as part of our ongoing efforts to ensure our community is prepared for a variety of emergency situations that may arise.”
The Municipality wishes to advise residents and visitors that this exercise will be undertaken during the first or second week of April.
“We cannot provide the exact date, as it would impede the effectiveness of the exercise if all the responders knew the date in advance,” Favot explained, adding, “but we want to assure residents that if they notice an increase in emergency vehicle traffic and/or smoke or fire in the vicinity of the railway in early-to-mid April, not to be alarmed, as this is all part of the exercise.”
The Municipality would also like to remind residents to be respectful of emergency vehicles at all times, and to comply with all traffic laws regarding interaction with emergency vehicles.
