TORONTO – Graeme Clarke scored twice, including the game-winner, to lead the Toronto Marlboros to a 4-2 victory over the Thunder Bay minor midget Kings Friday at the 2017 OHL Cup Showcase Tournament in Toronto.
Clarke opened the scoring for the Marlboros five minutes into the contest with the lone marker of the first period.
Toronto then went up by two early in the second on a Daniel D’Amico effort.
Jonathon Kilby put the Kings on the board with three minutes left in the middle stanza, with assists going to Jesse Appel and Owen Belisle.
However, the Marlboros came right back and restored their two-goal cushion 43 seconds later on Clarke’s second of the day.
Christian De Giorgis made it 4-1 Marlies in the third before Thunder Bay rounded out the scoring with 3:22 remaining as Kilby fed Belisle for a power play tally.
Toronto also held the edge in shots on goal by a 35-14 count with Eric Schneider picking up the win while Jordan Smith made 31 stops in defeat.
With the result the Kings fell to 0-3 in round robin play following a trio of narrow losses.
They will now wrap-up their 2016-17 season later today as they take the Ajax-Pickering Raiders at 3:30 p.m.
