THUNDER BAY, Ont. – It will be a busy Family Day weekend for the Thunder Bay Queens with three of their member clubs set to head out of town for competition.
The Sportop midget AA Queens will be in suburban Washington, D.C. take part in the 10th annual JWHL Challenge Cup while the Toppers Pizza midget A’s are heading to Madison, Wis., for the CAN/AM Cup and the bantam AA side will be in Duluth, Minn., for a three-game exhibition set.
The Sportop Queens begin play Saturday at 8:05 a.m. when they take on New Jersey Rockets.
That will be followed up with a 3 p.m. encounter vs. the Chicago Young Americans.
Wrapping up round robin competition, Thunder Bay will meet the Washington Pride at 7 a.m. Sunday.
As for the midget A’s, there are four round robin tilts on their slate, which begins with a pair of contests Friday.
They’ll begin play against the Palmer Pioneers of Alaska at 10:30 a.m. before meeting the host Madison Capitols at 4:30 p.m.
Saturday has Thunder Bay facing off with the Dallas Stars Elite at noon before concluding action vs. Team Illinois at 9 p.m.
Meanwhile the bantam AA Queens will go up against the Proctor-Hermantown Mirage Saturday at 8 p.m.
They will then meet the Mirage once again Sunday at 11:15 p.m. before finishing up their trip to Minnesota later in the day vs. the Grand Rapids-Greenway Lightning at 3:30 p.m.
