THUNDER BAY – NEWS – At 12:53 today Thunder Bay Fire Rescue was dispatched to a report of a vehicle accident on Dawson road near Dog Lake road. The first arriving unit discovered a transport in the ditch and an SUV with extensive damage due to collision in the opposite ditch.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue report, “An off duty paramedic had arrived on scene prior to arrival of the fire rescue crews. He had made initial patient assessments and provided necessary information to the fire officer. It was determined that there were six occupants in the SUV and that extrication was needed”.

Fire rescue crew members employed heavy hydraulics to pry open the right rear door to provide access to the occupants in the rear of the vehicle. The jaws were also used on the left front door to free the driver who was entrapped in the wreckage. As patients were accessed paramedics provided patient care and transported them to Thunder Bay Regional Hospital.

On scene were numerous police vehicles from the OPP and Thunder Bay Police Service as well as a number of Superior North EMS vehicles and personnel. There were three fire rescue pumpers and 13 fire crew members on scene.
