BRANDON, Man. – The Thunder Bay peewee Kings went unbeaten in round robin play and have now advanced to the semifinals Sunday at the Tournament of Champions in Brandon, Man.
Thunder Bay earned their semifinal berth after skating to a 5-5 tie with the Melfort Mustangs and an 8-4 triumph over the Regina Blues Saturday.
They’ll now meet the Warman Wildcats from Saskatchewan in semifinal action Sunday with the winner meeting either the River East Royals of Winnipeg or the host Brandon Wheat Kings in the championship game at 3:45 p.m.
Against Melfort, the Kings got four second period goals from Ethan Maki, Manerplaw Winning, Alex Remenda and Alex Arella while Winning added another in the third in the draw with the Mustangs.
Nate Miskey scored three times for Melfort, including the equalizer with just over five minutes remaining.
Keenan Marks was in net for Thunder Bay.
In the victory over Regina, the Kings broke the game open with four markers in the final frame to secure the win.
Josh Lehto notched a hat trick in the triumph and Remenda added a pair of markers.
Supplying singles for Thunder Bay were Winning, Connor Chisholm and Zach Biniaris.
Cole Morancy dished out three assists for the Kings.
Oliver Tuchenhagen started for the Kings and played the first period while Marks came in to begin the second and earned the victory in relief.
