BRANDON, Man. – The Thunder Bay peewee Kings are off to a 2-0 start at the Tournament of Champions in Brandon, Man., after picking up a pair of victories Friday.
Thunder Bay began with a 4-1 triumph over the Martensville Marauders of Saskatchewan before finishing up with a 7-2 decision over the Lord Selkirk/7 Oaks Rebels.
In the win over Martensville, the peewees got a pair of goals from Owen Loubier and singles courtesy of Jack Pineau and Manerplaw Winning.
Keenan Marks picked up the W in net.
Meanwhile in the victory over the Rebels, Winning and Jett Mintenko both tallied twice to pace the squad.
Also scoring were Pineau, Zach Biniaris and Josh Lehto.
Pineau and Alex Remenda chipped in with two assists each while netminder Oliver Tuchenhagen registered the win.
A pair of tilts awaits the Kings Saturday as they square off against the Melfort Mustangs at 10:30 a.m. before finishing up round robin action vs. the Regina Blues at 3:30 p.m.
Semifinal play goes Sunday at 10:45 a.m. and will feature the top two sides in each of the two five-team divisions.
The winners there will play for the championship at 3:45 p.m.
