THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – Travel east of Thunder Bay headed to Sault Ste Marie may be impacted by snow squalls today.

Snow squall warning in effect for:

  • Searchmont – Montreal River Harbour – Batchawana Bay

Snow squalls are occurring. Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, and snow will quickly accumulate.

Local snowfall amounts of 15 cm per 12 hours are likely today.

The snow squall activity will continue tonight before finally coming to an end by Saturday morning.

Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Road closures are possible.
