THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Warm weather and precipitation in the form of rain has local officials concerned over the condition of ice on local rivers and creeks.

Today at approximately 11:07 Thunder Bay Fire Rescue was dispatched to a call for a person in the Kam River. While en route we were notified that this person had gone into the water and ice to retrieve his dogs that had fallen through the ice.

Fortunately the person was able to get out of the river with his dogs. This could very easily have turned tragic as survival time in icy water is short. Please do not risk your life for your pets and be aware of ice conditions as they may be constantly changing due to weather and flow rates.
