THUNDER BAY – It was a scene almost like a classic police television show. Thunder Bay Police report that just after midnight, officers attempted to stop a vehicle on John Street that was displaying stolen licence plates.

The same vehicle had been involved in a police pursuit with both CP Police and Thunder Bay Police days earlier but the driver was not apprehended.

This time, weather conditions were on the side of the police because when the driver noticed the police following him, he accelerated while traveling the off ramp of the expressway at John Street. This caused the suspect’s vehicle to spin around and collide into the front of the police vehicle.

The driver then continued in the opposite direction on John Street then travelled northbound on Junot Ave where he drove around a police road block. The driver then failed to stop at a red light on Red River Rd.

The vehicle struck a citizen’s vehicle travelling westbound on Red River Road. At that point the driver exited the car and began to run from police.  After a short foot chase, officers were able to arrest the twenty-six-year-old male.

The accused suffered only minor injuries as well as the driver of the other vehicle.

The male had several outstanding criminal warrants, and was also charged with several driving offences including Flight from Police, Dangerous Driving, Failing to Remain, and breaching his recognizance.

The male accused will be held for court later this date.
