Ottawa RedBlacks Nigel Romick offers Training
THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – Local youth are getting the chance to train alongside a local football hero at clinics in December called ‘Training with a Pro – The Football Edition’. The dry-land clinics are part of a new program being offered, where youth between the ages of 5 and 13 are given the opportunity to train with a local professional football player, all in support of P.R.O. Kids.
Thunder Bay’s Nigel Romick of the Ottawa Redblacks will be the special guest this year. Professional athletes keep in shape during the off-season, and when they come home to Thunder Bay, they continue to train in order to maintain their agility and strength for the season ahead. These athletes recognize the importance of dedication and physical fitness and are looking to pass this on to the upcoming generation of football players.
“I’m excited to meet and motivate young kids through this event while connecting with them through drills,” said Nigel Romick. “I’m really looking forward to bringing some more football to Thunder Bay!”
The clinics are part of a fundraising initiative to support P.R.O. Kids, a service that assists children and youth to participate in local activities when the fees are out of reach for their families. Each year P.R.O. Kids helps approximately 900 children and youth to access local community recreational activities including sport, leadership, art, culture and music.
Two two-hour clinics are scheduled on Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Lakehead University Hangar. Each clinic is age specific and participants will go through a typical dry-land training workout and have the opportunity to meet Nigel.
We would like to recognize and thank Tbaytel for coming on as the presenting sponsor for these clinics.
Registration cost is $50 per participant. The first clinic will run from 9 to 11 am for participants’ ages 5 – 9 years. The second clinic will run from 11 am to 1 pm for participants’ ages 10 – 13 years. Additional clinic information is available through the Winter Key coming out late November. Registration begins Thursday, Nov. 24. To register, call 625-8463.
