THUNDER BAY – Royal LePage Lannon Realty, on behalf of this year’s Basketeers program would like to send out an enormous thanks to the community for your generous contributions to this year’s campaign.

Royal LePage completed another successful campaign in their 6th year running with a total of 140 Baskets which were donated by various businesses, individuals, groups and organizations. These Baskets were divided between our two local woman’s shelters, Beendigen Inc., and Faye Peterson Transition House. An estimated total value of over $30,000 worth of items from this years campaign, bringing the total over the past 6 years to over $90,000.

Royal LePage is proud to be one of many Basketeer Chapters across Canada, and with the communities continued support we will continue to make a difference in woman’s lives that have fallen victim to domestic Violence, a growing epidemic in our city. Although it may not seem like a lot, to these woman just knowing that there are people out there that care and support them, these baskets bring Hope. Royal LePage receives letters of thanks all throughout the year from recipients of these Baskets. It’s hard not to shed a tear reading their stories of survival and the Hope that the Basket has given them.

Along with the community support, Royal LePage would also like to express their gratitude to The Chronicle Journal, Magic 99.9 and Giant 105.3 for another year of sponsorship with advertising this year’s Basketeer program. With their continued support we are able to reach out to so many people who contributed to our campaign.

A very special thanks goes out to AMJ Campbell Van Lines for again supporting us with the delivery of the baskets to both Shelters. Their staff did a tremendous job and braved the terrible weather and still made sure each basket arrived safely.

Also a big shout out and thank you to Sari JamsaBabcock who organized and managed the majority of duties and responsibilities of this campaign. She put in hundreds of hours ensuring that this fundraiser would be a success.

“This was my second year as the Basketeer coordinator, and it was my privilege to be a part of such a wonderful program. As a young child, myself and 3 siblings lived in a shelter for almost 8 months and its the memory of that time which has inspired me to give back. I remember how alone I felt and how ashamed I was to tell anyone of our situation. I often wonder what the impact would have been on our family had the community reached out and supported us like the Basketeer program does each year for other woman. The letters of thanks we get  from woman who have received a basket make every effort worth it. I know they make a difference, and its in reading those letters which inspires me to continue on with such a great cause. Thank you to everyone who supported us this year and I look forward to our next campaign!” – Sari JamsaBabcock – 2016 Basketeers Organizer.
