Winter Storm UpdateTHUNDER BAY – Weather – Though the course of Friday, weather conditions in Thunder Bay and across the region are starting to look like the meteorologists know what they are talking about. Rain overnight has turned to sleet and now snow.

UPDATE – The Ontario Provincial Police advise that the TransCanada Highway west of Thunder Bay between Shabaqua and Ignace has been closed in both directions due to the storm.

Thunder Bay roads in the city are showing the impact. Driving conditions require your full attention. Side-streets are slippery.

Winter storm warning in effect for:

  • City of Thunder Bay

Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

20 to 40 cm of snow and blowing snow are expected.

The snow has begun across areas west of Lake Superior and will move into areas north of Superior. Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly this afternoon as the snow intensifies. Latest indications suggest that most regions will receive 20 to 40 cm of snow by Saturday morning with the highest amounts expected west of Thunder Bay.

In addition, strong and gusty northerly winds will generate blowing snow reducing visibilities.

The worst conditions are generally expected later this afternoon through mid evening.
