SIOUX LOOKOUT – Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC) continues on its journey to becoming a “Centre of Excellence in First Nations and northern health care by working together to improve the health status of individuals, families and communities, now and for generations to come”.
The health care environment in Ontario is complex and, at times, very challenging. Our leaders, front- line staff and physicians are constantly faced with creating innovative, effective, and efficient care delivery within current fiscal restraints that meets the needs of the people we serve.
As President and CEO over the last six years, Mr. David Murray has been instrumental in the integration of rural health care services aimed at improving access and quality of care.
With many important changes happening across the health sector, the Board of Directors has decided that SLMHC will need to take the organization to a next level. The Board deeply appreciates the challenges that are involved in managing in this complex structure and bringing multiple service providers and cultures together into one new and aligned organization. This is why it has concluded that new leadership skill sets are required to inspire our people to bring the organization to the next level and to lead the important process of fostering relationships with the people we serve, building a cohesive team and shaping a shared culture at SLMHC.
As the SLMHC Board of Directors begins its search for the next generation leader, effective immediately, it has appointed Heather Lee as acting CEO. As Vice President Health Services and Chief Nursing Executive since 2013, Heather has earned the trust of her colleagues and the Board and we are confident that she will keep SLMHC on course as we search for a new CEO.
The Board of Directors is also pleased to announce that Barbara Hancock has been appointed as co-chair of the Board to work with co-chair, Sol Mamakwa. Barb brings numerous years of experience and is committed to the continuation of our journey toward our vision of becoming a Centre of Excellence.
Barb will replace Kai Koivukoski who has been an active member of the board for over 20 years. We sincerely thank Kai for his diligent work for the organization.
