FORT SEVERN – Washaho Cree Nation – Weather – Winter is coming for Northern Ontario.

Environment Canada has issues a special weather statement for Fort Severn.

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Fort Severn

A low pressure system from the Northern Prairie Provinces will track eastward into Far Northern Ontario tonight, passing just south of Fort Severn.

Latest indications suggest 2 to 5 cm of snow will fall this morning before temperatures edge just above the freezing mark for a few hours this afternoon, resulting in a changeover to a messy rain and wet snow mix.

The mixed precipitation will change back to snow this evening as temperatures settle down back to near the zero degree mark with another 2 to 5 centimetres expected by Sunday morning.

Poor winter travelling conditions are expected in this early season snow event. Strong and gusty easterly winds may also result in occasional reduced visibility in blowing snow this morning in exposed areas.

The snow will come to an end by Sunday morning as the low pressure area moves away into Northwestern Quebec.
