Child diagnosed with a form of brain cancer

Webequie – Five-year-old Aidan Jacob, a Webequie First Nation member, has just been diagnosed with a form of cancer. He is currently in the out of town care at the Winnipeg Children’s Hospital where he is undergoing a firm diagnosis on the type of brain cancer and begin a treatment plan which could take several weeks.

His family would like to remain in Winnipeg to support and comfort Aidan during this period and are reaching out for help to cover the incurred expenses such as hotel accommodations, meals, transportation, etc.

As many may not be aware, the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) only covers limited costs for parents to be with their loved ones, such as Aidan, while in the care of an out of town hospital.

With the approval of the family, the Chief and Council of Webequie First Nation have started fundraising for Aidan by soliciting businesses for donations, doing raffle draws, local auctions, coupon draws, etc. All the proceeds will go towards the expenses incurred by family so they can be with Aidan in Winnipeg.

North Star Air, a Webequie partner, is proud to help out by donating two round trip tickets to anywhere they fly within their Flex Flight Network as prizes for the raffle. They will also be donating $2 from every passenger ticket sold during the entire month of October as part of their Cancer Awareness initiatives. They are passionate, respectful and empathetic toward children and families touched by cancer and hardship. In time of need, the North Star Air team believes that all people should be treated with consideration and dignity. They are committed to providing support for their community partners.

We welcome your support of any kind to assist Aidan’s family so they can be by his side during this difficult time.

To make a monetary or a prize donation, please contact Webequie Band Councillor James Suganaqueb @ 807.632.3889 or email: james.sug@webequie.ca or Dorothy Wabasse @ 807.633.7051, email: dorothyw@webequie.ca.

Big or small, every donation counts and your support would be greatly appreciated by the family.

“Meegwetch Creator, Kah-Nway-Nim Aidan, Shah-Way-Nim. Meegwetch!”

Respectfully,

Chief, Council and Community Members of Webequie
