THUNDER BAY – Water makes up more than half of a child’s weight. This is why children need lots of water to stay hydrated and healthy. Today, the Water Does Wonders campaign was launched to encourage families to drink water as a healthy alternative to sugar-sweetened beverages. This campaign is the next phase of the Healthy Kids Community Challenge Thunder Bay (HKCC TBay).
Water is essential for good health. It is also a simple, convenient and low-cost option for quenching thirst. The goal of Water Does Wonders is to motivate kids to drink water when they are thirsty.
To encourage water as a healthy drink, HKCC TBay will be:
· Installing bottle filling stations in 11 elementary schools.
· Distributing 6000 stainless steel water bottles at community events.
· Creating an Indigenous Wellness-Through-Water event.
Thunder Bay is among 45 communities selected to take part in the Healthy Kids Community Challenge which promotes healthy eating, physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices for children.
