SAULT STE MARIE – WEATHER – Environment Canada has a Severe Thunder Storm Warning in effect for several regions at the east end of Lake Superior.
Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:
- Searchmont – Montreal River Harbour – Batchawana Bay
- Elliot Lake – Ranger Lake
At 6:10 A.M. EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms producing heavy rain and some local dime size hail. Heavy rainfall of 50 to 75 mm is the main issue. The storms may continue periodically well into the morning, as conditions are favourable for continued development of storms over Lake Superior. If that is the case, upwards of 100 mm is possible over a few hours.
Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Fast-moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
