Thunder Storm Warning

SIOUX LOOKOUT – WEATHER – Northern Ontario is set for weather tonight – August 23 2016.

Environment Canada has issued Thunderstorm Warnings – Thunderstorm Alerts for a wide range of the North.

8:10 PM EDT Tuesday 23 August 2016
Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:

  • Sioux Lookout – Eastern Lac Seul
  • Pikangikum – Poplar Hill – MacDowell
  • Sandy Lake First Nation
  • Red Lake – Ear Falls

At 7:10 p.m. CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a cluster of dangerous thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts and up to golf ball size hail.

The cluster is located from Sesikinaga Lake to Slate Falls and is moving eastwards towards Mishkeegogamang.

Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:

  • Dryden – Vermilion Bay
  • Fort Frances – Nestor Falls
  • Kenora

A disturbance over Southern Manitoba will approach Northwestern Ontario this evening. Scattered thunderstorms are occurring over portions of Northwestern Ontario and southeastern Manitoba ahead of this feature and are expected to continue this evening. A few of these may become severe with large hail and strong wind gusts as the main threats. Heavy rain may also become an issue this evening as well as a small chance of a tornado.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
