THUNDER BAY – Environment Canada is calling for rain, including thunderstorms across Northwestern Ontario this evening.
At 4:27PM EDT A Severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for:
- City of Thunder Bay
- Fort Hope – Webiquie
- Nipigon – Lake Nipigon
- Geraldton – Manitowadge
- Superior West
There are also rainfall warnings in effect for parts of Northwestern Ontario.
Rainfall warning in effect for:
- Pickle Lake – Cat Lake
- Summer Beaver – Wunnummin Lake – Kingfisher Lake
- Pikangikum – Poplar Hill – MacDowell
- Sandy Lake – Weagamow Lake – Deer Lake
Showers with scattered thunderstorms are expected to be heavy at times this afternoon and early evening. Total rainfall amounts in the 50 to 75 mm range are likely for some communities in the region.
Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, damaging hail and torrential rain.
The threat of severe thunderstorms is expected to continue through this evening.
