FORT SEVERN – NEWS –  On August 2, 2016, at approximately 2:30 a.m., a lone officer posted at the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) Fort Severn Detachment reported shots fired in the vicinity of the Fort Severn Hotel, where the officer resides.

Sources in the community have said that community Elders and members of Council were on hand to assist the officer.

No arrests have been made thus far and no injuries have been reported as this matter remains under investigation.

The community members’ safety continues to be our primary concern although the community is no longer required to remain indoors.  The NAPS Emergency Response Team remains on site along with the members of the NAPS North West Region Crime Unit.

People are urged to report any and all information to police at the NAPS Fort Severn Detachment (807) 478-2571, or by reporting anonymously through your local CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).  CrimeStoppers can also accept online tips through either North Western Ontario www.tipshelp.com or Thunder Bay www.tipsubmit.com.

Fort Severn First Nation is located approximately 850 km north of Thunder Bay near the shore of Hudson’s Bay.
