DRYDEN – WEATHER – Civic Holiday Monday will likely see thunderstorms and possible hail for parts of Northwestern Ontario.
Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:
- Dryden – Vermilion Bay
- Kenora – Grassy Narrows – Whited
- Red Lake – Woodland Caribou Park
- Ignace – English River
- Ear Falls – Perrault Falls – Western Lac Seul
- Pikangikum – Poplar Hill – MacDowell
- Sandy Lake – Weagamow Lake – Deer Lake
Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.
Thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and continue this evening.
Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Stay indoors when a thunderstorm strikes. There isn’t a place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm.
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
