Women Under Construction – Focus of Origin

THUNDER BAY – BUSINESS – Origin has officially opened their new location. The Ribbon Cutting on Wednesday made it official as the company celebrated the new training facility located at .

The celebration at Origin is about a number of positives including the company’s Women Under Construction program that teaches women how to operate heavy equipment.

The simulators are a great way to start learning how to operate heavy equipment including mining trucks, bulldozers, and other construction equipment, as on the computer simulator, there is no risk or liability issues that would happen with learning on the actual equipment.

Does it work? Ashley, a young woman from Kasabonika is proof that the program’s training not only leads to a job, but can lead to a career.

Ashley, a twenty year old woman has taken the training in Kasabonika, then worked in her community and is now headed to work as the first woman from her community who will operate a rock truck at the Musselwhite Mine.
